Hey, remember that one time you saw a puppy with only 3 legs and it's owner was blind and had a sign saying "please help me get my Limpy a fake leg so he doesnt keep hitting his head on the concrete and sustaining head trauma"? Well, you walked past that guy and his sad little dog and have felt guilty about it ever since. Don't. This is your opportunity to make it better. La Mission is the personification of that guy and his dog, only when you give us money we are going to use it to help change a broken system. So there wont be more brain damaged, off kilter dogs, and that guy might not be blind anymore either. Somehow.

BACKGROUND & CONCEPT
In every musical genre EXCEPT for electronic booty shaking music, vinyl sales are up. In dance music, however, vinyl sales have been steadily dropping, forcing most labels to either fold or become more and more musically and conceptually conservative. This economic reality has left artists who make music that is not easily consumable or disposable up shit creek (so to say). Self-releasing your music is not 
easy, people. ALSO the dance music scene (which has its roots in minority identity politics and the politics of resistance) has become a slovenly, hedonistic, individualist capital venture-cum- nightmare. So. Two birds with one stone. You’ve heard the saying. We, La Mission, want to prove there are other ways to make, release and love music that are not about the accumulation and maintenance of capital. Eventually we hope to inspire cultural, political, and social offshoots of La Mission. We want to see OTHER people following our production model. You can help us jump-start the movement by first helping us to actualize our dream project. How? Easy.
CROWDFUNDING
Right now, crowd funding helps make a lot of dream projects happen. That's because there aren't any middlemen there to determine what they think people actually want. There is no insidious profiling (PROFIT MONGERING) or archetyping going on; it's just creative people working hard to give people who appreciate their work what they want on their own terms. Crowdfunding is a socially conscious, new method of developing creative communities and raising money for projects without the rules, regulations, depressing beggary, or the rampant compromising of morals/ideals in favor of a chunk of change from governmental granting organizations and money-hungry production companies. As such, it is the ideal platform on which La Mission can introduce itself to potential consumers (blech), supporters, participants, and fellow creatives and intellectuals (double blech). We are currently fundraising for the first three releases/premieres of our five-part project: your money will go directly towards the creation of three records, magazines, and performances.

Brethren, Citizens, Plebes, you ALL can be a part of history if this concept takes off! You can say you were there at the very beginning, you can say you were there 
before successful horizontalist/anarcho-syndicalist systems (look it up) were built, starting with fucking independent record companies! And even if you don’t give a shit about all that noise, well, we are totally offering you some amazing one-of-a-kind art and culture pieces, too. Records! Tracts! Patches! Performances! Sexy times! Etcetera Etcetera et al! You could, ya know, like, auction these things off for more than a hundred bucks at Sotheby’s someday, guys.

La Mission is hosting a fundraising dinner followed by an extended party-a-thon and then a durational performance. it is best contextualized as: revolutionary action of seeking utopia, refusing a false scarcity economy, understanding that revolutionary action brings reactionary oppression and sometimes death, acting out that oppression/death as "comedown", and showing our permanent commitment to revolutionary action despite possible negative outcomes through permanent signifiers (tattoos).

BERLIN, GERMANY. On March 29th and 30th, La Mission & Knuckle Cartel will present the second performance in their kunst/WORK series. (performance/ART) 002: Common Revilings is an experimental theater/dance performance that is based on (performance/ART) 001: A non-Aristotelian Drama in Five Parts (February, 2013) and La Mission’s second EP “The Good Ship” (official release pending). The performance is an irrepressible testimony on collective and individual identity, the valid and necessary pursuit of Utopia, and the wonders and perils of the human condition. This work is a sonic, visual, and sensational milkshake that will, without a doubt, bring both the boys and the girls to the yard (thank you Kelis and The United Dairy Farmers of America).

On February 1st and 2nd, the notorious-glorious record label La Mission & associated performance company Knuckle Cartel will present the first of five performances in their kunst/WORK series. performance/ART 001: a non-Aristotelian Drama in Five Parts is an experimental performance based on the satirical cinematic masterpiece “Network” and La Mission’s the “Time is Up Jazz” EP. Something happens in this image-based, movement-heavy, nudity-promoting performance piece, and then (holy shit!) something else happens. It is staged by Mandie O’Connell (La Mission/Knuckle Cartel/ex-Implied Violence/current swimming enthusiast) and features the intimidating talents of Luis-Manuel Garcia (La Mission/Max Planck Institute Fellow/ex-Parisian/current Berliner), Anja Struck (La Mission/ex-Berliner Ensemble/current cat owner), Magdalena Schnitzler (ex-Berliner Ensemble/Aalto Musiktheater Essen/current Bearded Lady), Laila Cola Weeks (La Mission/ex-Albuquerquean/current Naked Mennonite), and a couple of extremely beautiful people.
The piece will be installed and performed in the charming, dungeon-like doom cellar at Tischendorf, a cozy coffee shop on Friedelstrasse. The half-hour piece will be performed twice each evening. Upon arrival, audience members will be assigned to the first or second performance of the night. Because the coffee shop will remain open throughout the show, audience members can drink coffee & wine or dine on cake & cookies before and/or after witnessing the boobs & the carnage.

It features content by La Mission themselves as well as guest writers from the diverse fields of Neurological Science, cartoon/illustration, culinary sciences, ethnomusicology, fashion, performance art, and more in three languages!

La Mission is hard at work on the layout, manufacture, and assembly of our first mini-magazine. The performance is in rehearsal and will feature the talents of Laila Cola Weeks, Mandie O'Connell, Luis-Manuel Garcia, and Anja Struck.

Because we reached our financial goal, we were able to place an order for the first EP in the kunst/WORK series AND make a mastering date for the second EP! The mini-magazine is in the layout process and the performance is in reahearsal! La Mission is well on its way to presenting the first of this ambitious five-part series, as promised.

After a very successful fundraising event on Wednesday, La Mission was able to meet (and exceed) our goal of 3000 Euros! A big thank you to all of you who were able to make it out! We have 31 hours left in our campaign, and any funds that we raise OVER our goal, we get to keep and put into La Mission!!! We had hoped to raise 8,000 dollars from a US crowdfunding campaign, but have only raised about 1,000 through it so far. Show those Americans whose boss by making it rain EUROS!

WE ARE LA MISSION
Yo. I am Pablo aka “Beaner” aka “Skirtchaser” aka “El Frijolero” etc. I am an internationally working musician and dj who has enjoyed a modicum of success, but who doesn’t like what has happened to the musical landscape vis-a-vis “conservatism” in respect to both Money and Art. I mean the relationship of the two, okay? It sucks. And I want to change it.
This is Mandie (yo) aka “Knuckle Cartel”, a former big cheese and intellectual powerhouse behind the wildly successful Seattle-based experimental theater company Implied Violence. I, Mandie, agree with Pablo’s qualms regarding the music scene, and I have experienced the same “conservatism” and capitalistic partnership between Money and Art in the performance/theater scene. Witnessing firsthand the immense power that cash-wielding creeps hold over creatives is sickening, sad, and sordid. I’ve had enough, and so have you...right? Let’s fix a broken system. If we can’t fix it, let’s circumvent it.
Hiya. it's Luis aka "LMGM." I'm a dancer, a writer, a scholar (and an amazing cook of Peruvian food, thankyouverymuch). Somehow, I've turned my years of experience in rave scenes and club cultures into a career as a scholar of electronic booty-shaking music (so to speak). Ethnomusicology, music anthropology, popular music studies, dance studies, gender studies, affect theory: these are all things i do in one way or another. Ever since disco crashed under the exploitative mismanagement of major record labels in the late 70s, dance music has been increasingly shaped by capitalist music markets that only recognize familiar "pop" formulae and massive sales. In the process, electronic booty-shaking music has mostly lost its connection to its original contexts. This music was (and, on some dance-floors, still is) the ass-jiggling soundtrack to the utopian nocturnal worlds of sexual, ethnic, and class outcasts of an unjust system. This history is still urgently relevant, as global neo-liberal capital systems increasingly destabilize communities, neutralize political resistance, and profit off the world's most vulnerable. I want to revive and revisit the politics of booty-shaking in an unjust world.

Ich teile Pablos Einschätzung bezüglich der Musikszene, und habe denselben Konservatismus, dasselbe kapitalistische Abhängigkeitsverhältnis von Geld und Kunst in der experimentellen Theaterszene beobachten können. Ich habe mit ansehen zu müssen, welche Macht mit dicken Geldbündeln wedelnde Kotzbrocken über die wirkliche Kreativen haben, und finde das widerlich, traurig, und rundweg schäbig. Ich hab genug von dieser Scheiße. Du doch sicher auch, oder? Verändern wir also das System! Und falls das nicht möglich sein sollte, umgehen wir es halt!
Hallo, ich bin Luis alias „LMGM“. Ich bin Tänzer, Schriftsteller und Lehrer (und kann außerdem auch noch hervorragend peruanisch kochen). Ich habe es irgendwie geschafft, meine jahrelangen, in diversen Technoszenen und Clubkulturen gemachten Erfahrungen in eine Karriere als Dozent für elektronische Arschwackelmusik (wenn man so will) zu überführen. Meine Themen sind Musikethnologie, Musikanthropologie, Studien der Populärmusik, Tanztheorie ???, Frauen- und Geschlechterforschung, Affekttheorie. Seit dem vom ausbeuterischen Missmanagement derMajorlabels verschuldeten Zusammenbruch der Disco-Szene in den späten 70erJahren des letzten Jahrhunderts ist Club- und Tanzmusik immer mehr den Zwängen des kapitalistischen Musikmarktes unterworfen worden. Und dieser kennt (und anerkennt) halt nur die üblichen Pop-Formeln, und hat nur ein Ziel: möglichst viele Platten zu verkaufen. Mit dem Ergebnis, dass elektronische Arschwackelmusik die Verbindung zum originalen Kontext fast völlig verloren hat. Musik, die früher der Soundtrack der utopischen Nacht-Welt derer war (und auf einigen Dancefloors immer noch ist), die ein ungerechtes System auf Grund ihres Geschlechts, ihrer Herkunft oder auch ihrer Klassenzugehörigkeit an den Rand gedrängt hatte. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass das globale neo-liberale, kapitalistische System zunehmend Communities destabilisiert, politischen Widerstand neutralisiert und gerade die Schwächsten gnadenlos ausnutzt, ist eine Besinnung auf diesen historischen Hintergrund wichtiger den je. Ich will die Politik des arschwackelnden Widerstandes in einer ungerechten Welt wieder aufnehmen und neu beleben.
