The MONTH OF PERFORMANCE ART (MPA-B) is a month-long platform dedicated to highlighting, promoting and interconnecting the wealth and diversity of independent, contemporary and experimental Performance Art practices thriving in BERLIN. The only Performance Art project of its kind in Germany and beyond, the MONTH OF PERFORMANCE ART – BERLIN reflects the creative force injected by autonomous cultural players into the city’s Performance Art scene with an eclectic programme of performances, impromptu happenings, talks, screenings, actions, interventions, dinners, discussions and unique audience encounters and interactions. Running for its second year in May 2012, MPA-B brings together artists, curators, producers, venues, networks and organisations, which operate beyond and across the boundaries of institutionalised performing arts structures, with the objective of:
MPA-B was launched in MAY 2011, following a meeting of Berlin-based Performance Art practitioners, artists and curators. It kicked off to an auspicious start with a diverse programme comprising over 40 curated events, 100 participating artists, curators and producers, 25 hosting venues/locations and thousands of both on-site and online visitors. From well-established artists and practitioners to the lesser known, MPA-B 2011 truly reflected the creative breadth of Berlin’s Performance Art practices and experimentation, as well as its internationalism with performers of over 20 nationalities. From galleries, apartments and night clubs, to old breweries, public squares and TV studios, MPA-B 2011’s locations diversified in range as well as in geographical positioning with 25 different hosting partners located in Pankow, Wedding, Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg, Neukölln, Schoneberg and Friedrichshain. MPA-B 2011 WAS ALSO A 99% ARTIST FUNDED PROJECT, with its core organising team and other artist-run networks, contributing towards its making with financial and in-kind donations.
Through INKUBATO, which is dedicated to supporting Berlin-based projects, we are seeking MINIMUM NECESSARY SPONSORSHIP to cover logistical and production costs ahead of the next edition of the MONTH OF PERFORMANCE ART IN MAY 2012.
Check our premium offers, make a donation and help us make a meaningful impact on the all too often underfunded, overlooked and sidelined Performance Art scene of our beloved Berlin.

Things are looking up!!
As the call for participation to the 2nd edition of MPA-B is coming to a close (deadline MARCH 1st), we have already received a number of confirmations of participation from places and initiatives such as Escape Festival, Substitut, Kunsthause am Hamburger Platz, Grimmuseum, atelier obraviva, Co-Lab editions, A.A.A and more!!
We have also established a fantastic collaboration with ACUD THEATER and the newly founded SERENDIPITY GALLERY who will be our hosting partners for MPA open, the 48hr Performance Art madness we are organising the second weekend of May, to welcome all the homeless budding Performance Artist out there in need of a space.
Some great new additions to the MPA-B programming are also: a series of lectures at Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platzwith international guests from Finland, Canada and the UK; a partnership with Unbound the Live Art Development Agency's online shop for books, dvds and limited editions which specialises in publications and artefacts related to groundbreaking and risk-taking contemporary art practices ( Unbound books will be sold throughout May at various MPA-B 2012 events), and two newly formed international collaborations with our partners-in-crime Dimanche Rouge in Paris and ]performance s p a c e[ in London, who will be running parallel Performance Art projects in May with the MPA-B blessing.
The programme is building up thanks to the enthusiasm and passion of the Berlin Performance Art community. We are running at 0 budget, all investing energy, time and commitment to make this MPA-B bigger, better and bolder...Invest as well with what you can, to also help us make this MPA-B bigger, better, bolder and more sustainable!
13.02.2012 (17:23) MPA-B:
Thanks to all the wonderful MPA-B supporters who have helped us raise 385 euro, to date!
We still have 6 weeks left before the closing of our crowdfunding campaign, but also more than 2000 euro missing to secure enough funding to cover production costs to kick start our initiative! If you happen to have stumbled on this page, please read through our crowdfunding page and make a contribution of your choice (even just 10 euro can really help us towards reaching our goal!).
The MONTH OF PERFORMANCE ART - BERLIN is a unique initiative completely committed to expose and promote the work and practices of artists, curators, producers, visionaries and other important figures dedicated to the world of Performance Art. These individuals all too often work at the fringe of institutionalised Performing Arts structures, with no funding, no support, no promotion but with lots of passion, commitment, ideas and groundbreaking, inspiring work.
Help us make a difference in the cultural panorma of the city of Berlin!

MPA-B brings experimental and groundbreaking performances to the general and specialized public alike. With its diverse programme and geographical spread and outreach, the MONTH OF PERFORMANCE ART-BERLIN opens the world of Performance Art to as wide and diverse audience as possible. Most of the MPA-B events are free of charge, open to the public and advertised beyond the networks, institutions and channels catering for the traditional art-going public.
Furthermore through documentation, promotion and production support, MPA-B not only exposes and supports the work of artists, curators, and producers working at the fringe of funded and mainstream performing arts structures but it also fosters network development and collaboration, thus strengthening practices and creative growth.
TEAM
The MONTH OF PERFORMANCE ART – BERLIN is possible thanks to the work of an international team of professional producers, curators and artists (coming from initiatives such as Performer Stammtisch, Grimmuseum, the HomeBase LAB, atelier obraviva, i.a.m. and VerlegtVerlag) working on a volunteer basis and dedicated to covering all aspects of the MPA-B programme development, production, promotion and artist liaisons.
The MONTH OF PERFORMANCE ART – BERLIN is organised by the non-for-profit organisation Plusnull e.V. (www.plusnull.org) dedicated to supporting and fostering the Ephemeral Arts and to offering a platform for people to collaborate and join a discourse on these art forms.
