After three years of life, a debut album out on 2010 and one hundred gigs made all over Europe, the new album of THE SOMNAMBULIST is gonna be ready for an official release.
We're dealing with several labels - especially from Germany, France and Italy, where the members of the band come from - to release it before the end of this year, but we still can't find any funding to cover the production costs: recordings, mixing, mastering and CD printing.
We hope to finance the production with the support of all our followers, by selling it in advance.
SOPHIA VERLOREN is written, arranged and performed by
Marco Bianciardi: native of the land of Chianti, he worked until 2007 in Bologna as guitarist in the band Caboto, drummer for Elton Junk and sound designer for theatre productions. After the EP “Hotel Ambiente” was published and his medium-lenght movie “Liebe Macht Frei” presented at Cannes 2008, he moves to Berlin where he sings and plays guitar in THE SOMNAMBULIST and drums and bass in Jane Walton;
Rafael Bord: for ten years until 2007, he has been the violin player of Les Hurlements d'Léo from Bordeaux, with whom he took part to La République du Sauvage together with L’Enfance Rouge. Afterwards in Berlin he collaborated with balkan and klezmer projects such as Budzillus and ?Shmaltz!, and wrote music for theatre and cinema;
Marcello S. Busato: native of Milan, he’s involved in many collectives for musical and theatrical experimentation and collaborates with single performers of the contemporary jazz scene of Berlin and Geneva: Sink, Birdcage Tombola, Geraldine Schenkel, Margareth Kammerer, Anat Cohavi, Leonid Soybelman, Derek Shirley, Thomas Charbonnel, Michelangelo Contini, Tobias Delius, Cosima Weiter, Natahn Fuhr, Florian Bach, Boris Hauf, Axel Dörner, Paed Conca, Thomas Helton, Alexandre Simon, Christian Del Monte, Tobias Schirmer, Eisaku Nagira.
Moda Borderline was The Somnambulist’s debut album, recorded in August 2009 and released by Acid Cobra Records in 2010, which received a great feedback from audience and magazines.
In 2011 the band writes and performs live in Bordeaux an original soundtrack for the 1927 German silent movie Berlin, die Sinfonie der Großstadt directed by Walther Ruttmann, on commission by Centre Jean Vigo and Goethe Institut.
Acid Cobra released on September 19th 2011 Live in Berlin, a selection of six tracks taken from three and a half hours of live recordings made on stage in 2010 by THE SOMNAMBULIST with the involvement of several known musicians of the Berlin’s music scene as special guests.
The music of THE SOMNAMBULIST is a kaleidoscopic labyrinth constructed of kinetic sculptures and intersecting planes of conflicting meanings, once populated by weird and slippery characters struggling with unintelligible situations: subject to any interpretation, their songs are the picture of a subtle and incandescent mood.
